Starting a New Project

Are you like me when it comes to choosing a subject for a new painting; ideas jumping all over the place - colour ideas, subjects floating around in your head, simply can’t settle to one subject at a time?!

So many ideas, so many places inspiring you, so many colour combinations!

Oh heck, how to choose?!

This is what I have learned …

Choosing a specific project is the best way to stay focused and on track and avoid the scatter-gun effect.

I now select a project and immerse myself into it fully - total immersion is the only way I can avoid being distracted with multiple ideas!

How do I manage this? You ask

Well, it’s actually quite difficult if you have the same propensity as me to constantly looking in different directions for inspiration. However, by committing to a signal theme, idea or concept I have been able to create a small body of work that sits together in harmony, the work gently merges and blends permitting the viewer to see and feel my emotional connection to the land.

Take this body of work for example:

By selecting a certain subject (well let’s face it, that’s the landscape for me) then choosing a palette combination to express the theme/concept, you are able to work more purposefully - well, that’s how I respond.

How do you work?

Let me know whether you work on a signal piece at time or do you also immerse yourself in a project?
