Paying Attention

Spending time in my studio as I dive into a series of work for Bath Art Fair has led to some discomfort, a sense of unease and discontentment. Why should this happen, why should consistency unearth such a feeling? I realise this phase has to occur periodically permitting me to move forward in my art practice, however, it is always uncomfortable - I transition from wondering why I feel unsettled and disillusioned to accepting the moment by paying attention. By allowing myself to feel into the discomfort I can recognise shifts in my direction; artists don’t stand still, there is always something different to see and learn.

What will come next? I find this phase absolutely thrilling and massively terrifying - am I about to self-sabotage by moving in a different direction, or, will something amazing reveal itself?

I have learned from past experiences that it’s time to switch to my sketchbooks for experimentation, freedom to explore without expectation of outcome.

Sketchbook Explorations

Sketchbooks offer me the opportunity to take risks, explore different mediums, and to relax whilst new things drop into my practice. I can have fun with colour, muted or bright, odd combinations - so many possibilities.

I have decided to jump into the 100 Day Project this is a scheme created by Lindsay Jean Thomsom, you can join in by using the hashtag #the100dayproject. I know I am more than likely not going to post everyday for 100 days, however, it will help to give me impetus to share my sketchbook explorations and the directions they take me.

Valuable information for my proposed Sketchbook Course.
